On June 1, 2022, a 6.1-magnitude earthquake hit Lushan, a county under the administration of Ya’an, and a magnitude 4.5 earthquake was felt in Baoxing, another county in Ya’an, leaving four people dead and 42 others injured. People in Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan, and the neighboring cities such as Deyang, Yibin and Leshan felt the tremor of the quakes. Soon after the two quakes, the Department of Emergency Management of Sichuan Province responded quickly by deploying experts to the quake zones for disaster check, with professors Chen Rong and Pan Yi from the SCE included.
They set off for the two quake areas respectively right after receiving instructions from the government and devoted themselves to the disaster investigation and relief work. Due to the poor transport condition caused by the earthquake, they had to walk to the remote countries for investigation. The geological condition in the disaster area was particularly serious after the strikes of the quake, with houses collapsed, landslides, and damaged infrastructure, all wreaking havoc on people''s lives and properties. Despite the difficulties and dangers, the two professors conducted their tasks with determination and courage.
The earthquake is unavoidable, but the united disaster relief efforts can fix the cracks of the quake and help local people recover from the disaster.
