An online seminar focusing on giving students a guide to sit for the CET-4 was held at 2:30 pm on October 14, 2021 by School of Civil Engineering (SCE) and the Learning and Development Center for Students of New Oriental. It was designed to help freshmen of SCE have a better understanding of the test,thus preparing for it in an effective manner. And the lecturer, Zhou Zhina, is an English teacher from the New Oriental with a bachelor’s degree in translation and a master’s degree in economics.
The seminar, themed on “Passing the CET-4”, was divided into three parts. In the first place, Miss Zhou highlighted the importance of the exam for students by explaining English as a significant communicative tool and its indispensable role in international cooperation, overseas study or work. At the same time, one may fail to graduate from university if he/she does not pass the CET-4 exam. And English competence is an increasingly important factor in terms of employment nowadays.
Then Miss Zhou introduced students the test content and the corresponding scores along with detailed analyses based on previous exams, which provided a clear guidance for students to prepare for the test. She also gave them targeted suggestions and exercises which were highly helpful for their preparation. During the lecture, students of SCE actively interacted with the teacher through bullet chat. In the Q&A session, Miss Zhou answered students’ questions in detail. Students benefited greatly from the heated discussion .
Finally, Miss Zhou introduced courses about the CET-4 from her educational agency and encouraged students’ active registration.
The seminar enabled students to have a deeper understanding of the test, and laid a solid foundation for their preparation. Best wishes to freshmen and hope them pass the exam with good grades!
